Curriculum Intent:
At Haresfield School we want everyone to know that they are unique, special and worthy in the sight of God and to “Aim High”
To be the very best that they can be. We strive to achieve this through our Christian values rooted curriculum. By working together to learn what God wants for each of us, we offer an ambitious, creative curriculum in which we help each child to flourish and grow.
Through the teaching of Religious Education, we hope all our children are educated to develop spiritually, emotionally, educationally and morally. This will enable them to understand themselves and others, and to cope with the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities of living in such a diverse world.
Curriculum Implementation:
Our children are taught to learn from and about religions. We use the Gloucestershire SACRE scheme of work and Understanding Christianity to plan for their teaching. Theological concepts are explored through careful planning and debate and discussion is a key element of RE lessons. They reflect on other major world religions and this includes visiting other places of worship such as the local mosque or inviting in visitors from other faiths.
. Religious Education will have a minimum of 5% of curriculum time which equals:
Key Stage 1: 36 hours per year
Key Stage 2: 45 hours per year
We invite visitors to school who are from cultures that are not part of our school community and arrange visits to other places of worship such as the local mosque to help our pupils to understand and respect other faiths.
Our curriculum documents are divided into 3 phases:-
EYFS and KS1 = Reception, year 1 and year 2
Lower KS2 = Year 3 and year 4
Upper KS2 = Year 5 and year 6

The pupils are able to engage in theological discussion using reference to the Bible to support their views. They are able to use skills of enquiry, critical analysis and interpretation when discussing big questions and are tolerant and respectful of the views of others. Exploring Christianity through art and creative writing is a strength of our school and allows the children a way to explore and interpret Biblical texts and theological ideas in a spiritual way. It also gives a way in for those with SEND and learning difficulties to express their feelings and emotions. ‘The art work on the theme of Creation was colourful and creative. When asked, several KS1 children could explain their sequence of pictures.’ Bishops visitor 2019
Children in KS1 enjoy a play based and exploratory approach to RE which we are well resourced as a school to deliver. This hands-on enquiry-based approach is encouraged to continue into KS2.
